Associação Comadres
Associação Comadres is our local and legal not-for-profit community run initiative operating primarily in the Aljezur conselho while also serving people from across the Algarve, Alentejo and worldwide through our online offerings like Claiming Each Other. Our mission is to cultivate a more resilient network of community care through opportunities and services which integrate health, education and social action. We do this in many, many ways ranging from trainings, classes, events, retreats and public access to our library, apothecary and herb farm.
One of our more critical passion projects is Casula, a residential shelter and non-residential service project for women and children seeking sanctuary from intimate partner abuse and violence. This project is unique in many ways including how it organises and mobilises our amazing local community at large to support, encourage and empower these women and children who are part of the fabric of our community. This form supports us at Associação Comadres in creating an organised volunteer base to call upon when a need arises. Due to the unpredictability of needs, we understand that you may not be available at the moment we contact you. That ok! When many of us are potentially able and willing to offer the same kind of support, chances are greater that one of us will be available when the time comes!
