Working with scar tissue has changed my life. Through this work, I have been granted access to a profound process of holistic healing that not only honored and restored my physical body but also honored my story and helped me alchemize my grief into gratitude and resilience.

Scar tissue can form in the body from innumerable causes related to injury, surgery, illness and even stress. Under the surface of a seemingly healed scar, networks of scar tissue can pull across the fascial network creating pain, discomfort or even prolapsed organs. It can adhere to muscles, organs and connective tissue or create blockages of lymphatic fluid and blood. It can also result in numbness which may inhibit pleasure.

And then there are the emotional and spiritual domains of healing. Most clinicians who attend to the body post surgery or injury are not trained to investigate and integrate the very real emotional memory which scar tissue can contain. For this, you are often referred to a mental health practitioner. Most mental health clinicians are often not trained in bodywork which can restore function, flow and liberate and integrate ‘stuck’ emotional content like grief, rage, fear or other memories. And who should you even ask about the changes in your sexuality? Your doctor? Psychologist? Physical Therapist?

As a STREAM Practitioner, I am proud to provide skillful external and internal scar tissue work which also attends to the biochemical (gut health), biomechanical (structural) and emotional facets of your healing process. And, as both a Somatic Sex Educator and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I am prepared to support you through your sexual healing and evolution and with more profoundly difficult or traumatic experiences which have left their mark on your body. It’s my honor to do so.

I hold special competency and care for people with physical and/or emotional scarring related to 1) pregnancy & birthing i.e. cesarian, tearing, episiotomy, abortion 2) sexual assault 3) gender, sex or race based violence 4) self affirming medical procedures and 4) chronic stress from systemic racism. Scar Tissue Remediation, Education and Management, or STREAM is the brilliant creation of this woman, Dr. Ellen Heed. I consider myself very privileged to have learned and qualified directly from Dr. Heed and am honored to offer this work in person here in the Southwestern Algarve.
